Monrovia – In a startling incident at the Voice of Liberia radio station, an apprentice broadcaster was found in possession of a firearm. The unidentified broadcaster confessed to his supervisor, Sekou Sheriff, that the weapon was given to him by his sister, who is employed by the Presidential Executive Protection Service. This security detail is tasked with safeguarding the President of Liberia, the Vice President, and their immediate families.

The apprentice claimed that his sister provided him with the firearm for self-protection, citing concerns for his safety while working night shifts at the station, which he believes is under security scrutiny.

The firearm was discovered when CEO Sekou Sheriff was searching for a pen in his backpack. Upon finding the gun, he immediately summoned the apprentice to his office. However, the broadcaster expressed fear about being questioned and the potential for the incident to be disclosed to other employees.

The situation raises serious concerns about safety protocols within media establishments and the implications of carrying firearms in such environments. The management of the Voice of Liberia is expected to address a press conference in the coming hours as investigations continue.
