The alleged bribery scandal surrounding the removal of House Speaker Fonati Koffa has sparked significant concerns among loyalists of Joseph Boakai and the general public. The allegations, brought forth by District Number 10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah, are not mere accusations but are supported by concrete evidence in the form of cash coupons and a video. This compelling evidence strongly suggests that cash were indeed offered to lawmakers, whether to oust Koffa from his position or not.

The mounting evidence indicates that there may have been illicit payments made to lawmakers which it is alleged is meant to advance the agenda of those seeking to remove the CDC Grand Kru Lawmaker as stated by Hon Kolubah. Dismissing these allegations based on denials from pro-Boakai lawmakers alone would be insufficient. To restore public trust and ensure transparency, it is imperative that President Boakai takes immediate action by establishing an independent commission to thoroughly investigate the veracity of these allegations.

Failing to address this issue promptly and decisively will only further damage the reputation of the new government. President Boakai must recognize the potential embarrassment associated with allowing this scandal to go unchecked. By proactively investigating and addressing these allegations, he can demonstrate a firm commitment to accountability and upholding the rule of law.

We strongly urge the civil society of Liberia to actively advocate for a comprehensive inquiry into this scandal. It is crucial to thoroughly examine the involvement of the Minister of State and President Boakai himself. Only through a transparent and independent investigation can the truth be uncovered and the integrity of the government be preserved.
