Monrovia, Liberia – Tensions escalated early this morning at the headquarters of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) as clashes broke out between party officials and police forces.

According to CDC representatives, police conducted an early morning raid under the pretext of searching for illegal drugs, which was met with strong resistance from party security.

CDC officials alleged that they have received credible information indicating that the police plan to extend their operations to raid the homes and properties of former President George Weah, as well as to arrest the party’s Secretary General, Jefferson Koijee.

Alvin Wesseh, a prominent party official, warned that any attack on former President Weah would mark the beginning of the downfall of the Boakai administration.

During a media conference, Wesseh dismissed the notion that the government possesses the capacity to arrest the Secretary General or the CDC leader, calling it “a mere joke.” The atmosphere in central Monrovia has turned tense, with fears and anxieties palpable among citizens as the situation develops.

As clashes continue, daily life in the capital has come to a standstill, raising concerns about the potential for further unrest in the coming days. The government’s response to these events remains to be seen, as the opposition calls for calm and vigilance in the face of escalating tensions.

The Liberian government has not issued any statement on the latest crisis.
