Former President George Weah has issued a significant statement following the Supreme Court of Liberia’s ruling on the Bill of Information filed by Honorable Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa and other members of the House of Representatives. The Court’s decision declared the actions of the so-called majority bloc in the House as unconstitutional and illegal, affirming Speaker Koffa’s position as the legitimate and constitutional Speaker.
In his statement, Weah emphasized the importance of the ruling, describing it not just as a legal decision but as a critical affirmation of the rule of law and the constitutional order essential to Liberia’s democracy. He warned that any attempts to undermine or dismiss the Court’s ruling could jeopardize the nation’s stability, potentially leading to a constitutional crisis that Liberia cannot afford.
Weah called on President Joseph Boakai and his administration to respect the ruling and uphold the constitutional order. He cautioned that ignoring the judiciary’s authority could threaten the sovereignty of the Constitution and endanger the nation’s hard-won peace and democratic progress.
He further appealed to international partners and supporters of Liberia to encourage the Boakai administration to comply with the Supreme Court’s decision, acknowledging their vital role in the nation’s stability and democratic journey.
Addressing the Liberian people, Weah urged a collective commitment to defend the principles of justice, legality, and the rule of law. He emphasized the need for unity in protecting the Constitution against political pressures and challenges, asserting that the future of Liberia hinges on this commitment.
“We must reaffirm our dedication to building a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Liberia—one that remains a beacon of democracy and hope in the region,” Weah concluded. He expressed hope that divine guidance would continue to bless Liberia during this pivotal time.
