A man identifying himself as an insider within Liberia’s former ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has released a voice message on social media, expressing deep concerns over alleged betrayal and scheming within the party. In the audio, the man, known as Sam, specifically accused CDC officials from Lofa County of orchestrating the defeat of President George Weah and plotting to remove House Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa from his position.
Sam claimed that the collective efforts of Lofa officials in the CDC significantly contributed to Weah’s electoral loss and are now jeopardizing Koffa’s position as Speaker. Reflecting on recent events, he recounted how, following the defeat of former Speaker Bhoffal Chambers, Lofa officials approached President Weah in a church setting, seeking his support for the candidacy of Fallah for the Speaker’s role. However, according to Sam, President Weah firmly rejected their appeal, asserting that it would be unwise to support Fallah when Koffa was next in line.
This rejection reportedly fueled animosity among Lofa officials towards Koffa. Sam alleged that since the second round of elections led by Joseph Boakai, these officials have actively worked to undermine the CDC’s prospects for victory. He specifically named individuals such as Morlu and Korjie, claiming they failed to fulfill their responsibilities despite receiving substantial funds for campaign efforts. Instead, he accused them of squandering the money without ensuring adequate monitoring or poll watching, ultimately contributing to the party’s defeat and Boakai’s success.
Sam did not hold back in his criticism, pointing out that many of the Lofa officials, who were once struggling in various trades, have now risen to prominence in the Legislature, attributing their success to President Weah’s patronage. He claimed that these same individuals are now conspiring against Speaker Koffa, warning that repercussions are imminent.
“If they think they are untouchable, we’re coming for them,” Sam declared. He expressed his intent to return to Liberia, stating, “They will be made restless.” None of the officials named in the audio could be reached for comment.
Sam’s message has sparked significant debate within the party, raising questions about loyalty, betrayal, and the internal dynamics of the CDC as it navigates a challenging political landscape.
