Lawmaker In Liberia Demands ‘Kenya Style’ Civil Action Against Legislature

Rep. Foko

District Number nine Representative, Frank Saah Foko, has sparked controversy by calling for a ‘Kenya Style’ civil action against members of the national legislature in Liberia. Foko accuses his fellow lawmakers of being egocentric and less interested in adequately representing the Liberian masses.

Representative Foko’s frustration boiled over during a session in the House of Representatives when the chamber seemed to procrastinate on taking action against government functionaries who allegedly violated the law in carrying out their duties.

In a fiery outburst, the opposition CDC Representative threatened to burn down the chambers of the House of Representatives, claiming that lawmakers were more interested in their personal gain than addressing the concerns of the people.

Foko did not mince his words, labeling his colleagues as “criminals and a bunch of egocentric individuals” who prioritize enriching themselves over serving the common people. He expressed his disappointment in the lack of concern shown by members of the House of Representatives towards the people they are meant to represent. This frustration has led him to consider the torching of the chambers of the House of Representatives, as was recently witnessed in Kenya.

The lawmaker also criticized the manner in which the managing director of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) was treated by the House. He questioned why the director was allowed to leave without facing consequences after being summoned to explain a loan taken without legislative approval.

Representative Foko’s strong stance has ignited a debate within the Liberian political landscape, with supporters and critics voicing their opinions on the matter. The call for a ‘Kenya Style’ civil action against the legislature has certainly brought attention to the need for a more accountable and responsive government in Liberia.
