Fmr. Pres. Weah and Pres. Boakai

The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) is set to confront what they called “President Joseph N. Boakai’s lawlessness, as they convene for an emergency meeting aimed at reestablishing dignity and combating potential abuses of power.”

The organization’s decision to address this issue according to a statement, signifies a critical stance on maintaining order and upholding ethical standards within the political sphere.”

The meeting is expected to be pivotal in reaffirming the principles of governance, transparency, and accountability, says CDC. By taking a firm stand, the CDC says it will demonstrate their commitment to ensuring a just and respectful political environment that serves the best interests of the public.

The biggest opposition party, the CDC (Coalition for Democratic Change) led by George Weah, says it had grown increasingly concerned about the actions of President Boakai and his party, UP (Unity Party). The CDC believes that President Boakai was acting in a lawless manner and disregarding the rulings of the Supreme Court of Liberia.

In response to these concerns, the CDC called for an emergency meeting of all members of their Legislative Caucus. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 29, 2023, at 12 noon at the Party’s Headquarters.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and plan actions to stop President Boakai and his alleged wanton disregard for the rule of law.

The CDC statement says party leader, George Weah, is set to be in full attendance at the meeting. The CDC notes that it aimed to restore dignity to the political corridor and address what they see as “gross incompetence and abuse of power by President Boakai.”

The CDC expressed their belief that President  Boakai had an obligation to govern the country peacefully. However, they accused him of indulging in a “kangaroo style of governance and gangsterism”.

In response, the CDC vowed to resist these actions with a robust, political, constitutional, and decisive approach.

In their statement, the CDC called on all tenured holders, including Justices, to remain calm. They emphasized that Liberia is a country governed by law and would be protected against any speedy retrogression by President Boakai and his alleged gang of desperadoes. The CDC made it clear that fear, intimidation, and lawlessness would not be condoned.

As tensions mounts and the political climate become more heated, the CDC’s planned action aims to bring attention to their concerns and rally support to address what they believed to be a threat to the democratic principles of Liberia. The outcome of the emergency meeting and the subsequent actions taken by the CDC would shape the future of the nation and its political landscape.
