President Boakai Suspends Entire Board Of Commissioners Amid Allegations

President-elect Joseph Boakai

Monrovia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has suspended the Board of Commissioners of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) due to allegations of questionable financial transactions and other malpractices. The suspended officials include Madam Edwina C. Zackpah, Mr. Israel Akinsanya, Mr. Zotawon D. Titus, Mr. James Gbarwea, and Mr. Osborne K. Diggs, who served as the Chairperson and Commissioners of the LTA.

In order to investigate these allegations thoroughly, President Boakai has requested a comprehensive audit of the LTA to be conducted by the General Auditing Commission (GAC).

President Boakai has emphasized the importance of upholding high standards of integrity and accountability in the operations of the LTA, as it is a critical institution responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector in Liberia.

By suspending the Chairperson and Commissioners, the President has demonstrated his commitment to ensuring that the LTA operates in the best interest of the Liberian people.

It is worth noting that this suspension comes shortly after President Boakai was defeated by the LTA Commissioners in a case regarding their wrongful dismissal. The Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of the Commissioners, for their illegal removal as tenure holders. Some political observers speculate that the suspension may be a continuation of President Boakai’s efforts to remove the team at LTA.
