Free Thinkers Denounces Senator Konneh’s Unfounded Attack On Minister Grigsby

Min. Sylvester M. Grigsby and Sen. Amara Konneh

In a scathing response to Senator Amara Konneh’s recent call for the resignation and prosecution of Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Sylvester Grigsby, the Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia has labeled the senator’s actions as unreasonable, diabolical, and derogatory. They assert that Senator Konneh’s attempt to tarnish Minister Grigsby’s reputation is a blatant disregard for the rule of law and an affront to accountability and good governance.

In a press release, the Free Thinkers emphasized the importance of a separation of powers and checks and balances between the branches of government, as stipulated in Article 3 of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia. However, they also stressed that such checks and balances should not be used as a platform for spreading misinformation.

The release highlighted Senator Konneh’s failure to fulfill his legislative responsibilities of oversight by not inviting Minister Grigsby and NASSCORP’s Director General, Dewitt vonBallmoos, for questioning before making baseless calls for resignation and prosecution. The Free Thinkers expressed shock and dismay at Senator Konneh’s disregard for due process and his willingness to defame a highly regarded public servant without any preliminary investigation.

The Free Thinkers questioned the alleged wrongdoing by Minister Grigsby, who had simply requested NASSCORP’s assistance in purchasing five SUVs to ensure a smooth inauguration ceremony for President Joseph N. Boakai. They asserted that this request, made within the realm of NASSCORP’s corporate social responsibility, did not violate any laws and was in line with the entity’s mission. The group called on Senator Konneh to refrain from actions that could negatively impact the image of the Liberian Senate.

Highlighting Minister Grigsby’s proven track record in promoting accountability, transparency, and good governance, the Free Thinkers commended President Boakai’s decision to appoint him as Minister of State. They affirmed their support for Minister Grigsby and denounced any attempts to undermine his reputation without sufficient evidence.

In a final statement, the Free Thinkers urged Senate Pro Temp, Hon. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, to dismiss Senator Konneh’s communication demanding Minister Grigsby’s resignation and subsequent prosecution due to its lack of factual basis. They called for a fair and thorough investigation into the allegations before any further actions are taken.

The Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia’s strong reaction to Senator Konneh’s unfounded attack on Minister Grigsby demonstrates their commitment to upholding the principles of justice, fairness, and accountability in Liberia’s political landscape.
