Monrovia, Liberia – The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in Liberia has confirmed the arrest of two Sierra Leoneans with drugs, one of whom claims to be a nephew of Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio. The arrest has raised eyebrows and sparked a wave of speculation about the involvement of the President’s relatives in illicit activities.

Abraham Kromah, the head of LDEA, confirmed the arrest during a local radio talk show. While he did not disclose the name of the alleged nephew, he revealed that the individual is currently hospitalized at a local medical facility, claiming to be sick. Kromah emphasized that the LDEA is unswayed by the suspect’s familial connection to President Bio and is determined to carry out a thorough investigation.

Speaking on the show, Kromah stated that the two Sierra Leoneans will be taken to court to face charges related to drug possession. He further revealed that substantial quantities of drugs were found on their persons, solidifying the case against them. The LDEA is committed to ensuring that the individuals are held accountable for their alleged involvement in drug-related activities.

The arrest has sent shockwaves through both Sierra Leone and Liberia, as it raises concerns about the possible infiltration of drug trafficking networks into the region. President Maada Bio has not yet issued a statement regarding the arrest of his alleged nephew. However, it is alleged the Sierra Leonean leader made called a Liberian Senator to Intervene in the case. Mr. Kromah admitted to being called by the Liberian lawmaker. He said he simply said the men were being held for breaking Liberian laws.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and the need for collaborative efforts between countries to combat this illicit trade. Both Sierra Leone and Liberia must work together to share intelligence, strengthen border control measures, and enhance law enforcement efforts to tackle drug-related crimes effectively.

As the case unfolds, the public remains watchful, awaiting updates on the investigation and the subsequent legal proceedings. The arrest of the Sierra Leone President’s nephew serves as a stark reminder that no one, regardless of their social standing or familial connections, is above the law when it comes to drug-related offenses.
