MONROVIA – Representative Yekeh Kolubah of Montserrado District Number 10 has strongly called for the expulsion of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai from the Unity Party. In an interview on Monday, February 5, 2024, Rep. Kolubah expressed his concerns about the future of the party under Boakai’s leadership. He claimed that if Boakai continues as the face of the party, it would ultimately lead to its demise.

According to the lawmaker, he had previously warned the Chairman of the Unity Party, Rev.  Luther Tarpeh, about the potential negative consequences of Boakai’s leadership, but his concerns were dismissed. The outspoken lawmaker criticized President Boakai for allegedly proceeding in a manner that goes against the interests of the Liberian people. He further accused Boakai of deceiving them with false promises of equal regional representation in the executive branch, only to see appointments that contradict these assurances.

The Montserrado District Number 10 lawmaker did not hold back in expressing his dissatisfaction with Boakai’s alleged insensitivity to the struggles faced by the Liberian people. He stated that he had no fear in voicing these concerns. Dismissing claims that he may be unpopular in the country, Kolubah asserted that those who believed this were simply wasting their time. He labeled President Boakai as a big mistake for both the Unity Party and the nation as a whole.

The controversial comments by Kolubah have sparked a heated debate within the Unity Party, with some members defending President Boakai’s leadership and others expressing similar concerns. It remains to be seen how the party will respond to Kolubah’s calls for Boakai’s expulsion and what impact this will have on the future of the Unity Party ahead of the upcoming elections.
